Robert Epting, a native of High Point, and a graduate of UNC-CH and UNC Law School, has almost 40 years of experience serving clients in and around Orange County. In 2002, Bob was inducted into the General Practice Hall of Fame by the North Carolina Bar Association. He has litigated or settled numerous civil and criminal cases over his career. He has served as General Counsel to Orange Water and Sewer Authority since 1984, and is an acknowledged expert in matters of administrative and environmental law, including water, environmental regulation, zoning, and personnel. He has handled a wide range of matters involving the administrative processes at UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals, including representing students charged in the Student Honor Court.TOP
Epting has earned an "AV" rating from his peers in the legal profession in Martindale-Hubbell attorney ratings.
Epting is an active participant in civic and community life. He served 4 years on the Chapel Hill Board of Aldermen and 4 years on the Board of Orange Water and Sewer Authority. His interest in the protection and conservation of clean water led to his appointment as a member of the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission from 1992 to 2000.
Epting is an avid pilot, and received the National Humanitarian of the Year award from the EAA for his leadership in the Young Eagles Program, in which he introduced more than 3,000 children to flying with his Young Eagles flights, and extended the program to young UNC Burn Center victims, and young burn victims across the country. His restored 1946 Piper Cub won The Outstanding J-3 Piper Cub award at the 2012 Oshkosh Airshow, where more than 200 vintage Cubs gathered from around the world to celebrate the 75th anniversary of this classic airplane.
Epting has represented many community service agencies and groups, including the Inter-Faith Council for Social Services, the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, and the Orange County Family Violence Prevention Center, of which he was one of the founders.
